The best side dish for your Thanksgiving turkey? Potatoes, of course! Made from scratch with simple, fragrant and creative recipes. The kind that will transform the usual Thanksgiving potatoes into a proper dish! Here are some of our favorite ideas (and recipes) to make crispy, succulent or creamy Thanksgiving potatoes.
Italian-style Thanksgiving mashed potatoes
If you’re fond of mashed potatoes, make an extra-special Thanksgiving mashed potatoes with just a few simple changes to the traditional recipe.
To start, you’ll need to select the right potatoes - we suggest potatoes with a little “age” (so they’re softer and easier to mash). To make our version of mashed potatoes, you’ll need the following ingredients: 1 lb potatoes, ½ cup milk, 1 ½ oz butter, salt, nutmeg and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese if desired.
To make them, first transfer the potatoes to a pot with enough water to cover and bring to a boil. Let the potatoes cook for about 40 minutes after coming to a boil. Once the potatoes have finished cooking, you should be able to pierce them easily with a fork or knife. Drain the potatoes and mash them with the warm milk, a pinch of salt and some nutmeg and grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese to taste. Stir over low heat until the ingredients are combined. Then add the butter.
Something special for Thanksgiving
To make our classic mashed potatoes recipe extra-special, add some crispy pancetta (or bacon) and a cream made with Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino cheese. Sprinkle with spices to taste – like cinnamon, cloves, black pepper and smoked salt. Or you could make the recipe using sweet potatoes, instead!
Thanksgiving roasted Potatoes
Roasted potatoes are a great classic of the traditional Sunday lunch in Italy, since their simplicity and taste go so well with meat dishes. The secret to making them to perfection? Following our classic recipe step-by-step!
